Is It Hard to Eat with Dentures?
Eating with dentures is a skill that every patient acquires, albeit differently in each case. As the patient, it is important to understand that the way you ate with real teeth is no longer helpful to you.
A totally new set of skills will need to be learned to allow you to use the muscles and tongue in your mouth to help control the denture movement while eating. Remember, your mouth has 1 or 2 artificial appliances (dentures) in there, and they are ‘in the way’ for normal eating/chewing. You now need to learn how to use them to chew your food. Even at best, standard dentures (no implants) may restore up to 15 % of your biting capacity. Implants are the only true solution today. They restore confidence and security when chewing and speaking.
